10 Ways To Celebrate Easter With Kids

Easter is right around the corner, and I swear every year I grow older the year goes faster and faster, nevertheless, easter is hopping right up on us. This year I am so excited because it’s the first year Sawyer will semi-understand the egg hunt! At the very least he sure loves putting stuff inside of baskets. As we get closer to the holiday, I want to make sure not to put all my focus on a make-believe bunny (although I still find fun in it) I want Sawyer to learn the true meaning of Easter. So here is my list of things to do on Easter to remind the family of what we’re celebrating and having some fun.
1. Go To Church!
The best thing to do on easter sunday is attend a church service. I know, I know, it sounds obvious. Unless you don’t attend church, then it probably sounds boring or like a waste of your time. However, out of all the days of the year to attend church, especially if you don’t normally go, it’s easter. Worst-case scenario you waste an hour of your life, but there is always a chance you’ll enjoy yourself. Maybe you’ll even make some new friends.

2. Easter Egg Hunt
Kids love easter egg hunts! And adults love watching their kids have fun, at least I do. You can do one at your own house, or if you’re feeling lazy, which I am already planning on. Loads of churches put on giant easter egg hunts every year, and whether you want to attend a service or not, you and your kids are more than welcome to attend the easter egg hunt.
3. Resurrection Eggs
This! I am so excited I found these I’ve been telling all of my friends about these. I think it is such a fun way to show your kids the resurrection story. I am using these wooden eggs and my own version of fillers for the eggs. Click here to see the one for my inspiration. I will post a tutorial for the ones I am making (if I get them done before easter) if not, I will definitely get them done by next easter….

4. Easter Brunch
When I used to work at the airport we had two shifts, and the best part about working the early shift was sometimes our boss would take us out for breakfast. He called it “breakfastes” once cause he was so tired, but we never let it go. “Breakfastes” is one of my favorite meals of the day. It’s the only meal you can have at any time of the day and not get looked at like a psychopath… And what better day to enjoy a brunch than easter? I can’t think of any! So whether you prefer your breakfastes at home or at your favorite restaurant this is something fun for the whole family.
5. Go for a walk or a hike
Now that you’ve enjoyed your stack of chocolate chip pancakes, why not get a little fresh air? After all, if you live in a place like I do that is cold half of the year, spring is a much-awaited season. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of winter. I love the snow and cozy nights. I love cuddling up in my blanket, and to be honest, I enjoy being cold, but when winter is finally coming to an end. There is nothing better than the feeling of the sun on your face and the growing number of age spots that are inevitably making themselves comfortable all across your unprotected skin.
Also, getting the kids outside to work off some of that energy they have from the candy that dang easter bunny brought will never hurt. If you’re looking for some fun, easy hikes close to where you live, go check out your local REI. I went there last week and found a book filled with easy day hikes in my area. I plan on completing all of them this spring, and I am so excited.

6. Read Easter book
I’m a bookworm. I love a good book! And, I hope that I am successfully passing that trait on to my son. I started with my baby shower. I requested people bring books instead of cards. I didn’t care if they were found at a thrift store or a garage sale. I just asked for a message in the books. My son started his life out with lots of books, filled with sweet messages from loved ones, and I love that for him. Click here to see the invitation set I used for the baby shower.
I started a new tradition this year. Every holiday, I get him a new book, and this holiday won’t be different than any other. The Easter book that will be added to his second easter basket will be How to Catch the Easter Bunny by Adam Wallace & Andy Elkerton. You can find it here if you are interested.
7. Easter basket
My love language is gifts. I love giving them, and I love getting them. I’m all about gifts. That being said. I tend to go a bit overboard when it comes to gifts. I’m trying to tone it down a little before my son becomes an out-of-control, entitled monster. This year, I am making Sawyer’s Easter Basket myself. I figured I’d save some money…. or at least pretend I’m saving money, and I’ll get some stuff I know he’ll like. If you want to know how it turned out click here, and I’ll get you guys some links to what I filled it with.
Easter Baskets are fun for everyone. Whether you decide to make one or buy one, everyone would love an eater basket… I know I would *hint, hint*. All jokes aside, I hope you have fun opening or watching your little ones open Easter Baskets.

8. Easter outfit
Easter outfits are so much fun. The little boys in suits, or easter colored shirts and bowties. The little girls in frilly dresses with their little purses. Everyone deserves to feel their best on Easter, not just the kids, but their parents too. Especially you mama. Sometimes, we tend to focus on our kids. We dress them up super cute, while we wear that old dress in the closet. The one that just kinda hangs off the body. You know the dress. The dress that if “What not to wear?” caught you wearing it would be the reason you need a makeover. Okay. I’m probably exaggerating a little bit, but really. For most of us, everything we do is for our kids, and that’s great. As a mom though, we need to love ourselves. We deserve a new dress. I’m going to Nordstrom Rack today, and I’m going to feel pretty on Sunday. I’m not going to break the bank, but I am going to get something for myself.
Sometimes, it might feel selfish, but how would you feel if your daughter grew up and never did anything for herself? If we think about it in this way, it can be easier to not feel selfish about loving on ourselves. I believe, more people need to teach their kids about self-care, and the best way to do that is to show them. We can take care of them as much as we want, but if they don’t see us spoiling ourselves sometimes, they won’t ever learn how to care for themselves.
9. Play a Game
Another fun thing to do after Easter brunch is to play a game while you have the family together. I personally, am a huge fan of all games. My favorite is Monopoly, I think I am kind of a loner on that one though because nobody will ever play with me…
There are a lot of options besides Monopoly though, maybe Clue is more your vibe, or Scattegories, Twister maybe? Or maybe you are more of a jokester, Jackbox TV is a fan favorite in my house. Maybe you want to get outside some more and enjoy some fresh air. You could mix a game with your hike/walk by going frisbee golfing. Whatever you and your loved ones prefer to do to have a good time it doesn’t matter as long as you’re having fun with the people you love.

10. Easter Movie
One of the best ways to end a day full of fun and celebration is a good movie. There are lots of great easter movies out there that don’t get the love. Not like Christmas movies do. Maybe a new tradition to start with your family this year would be an easter movie before the work week starts.
You have the obvious one, Passion of The Christ, but if that’s not a movie you want to watch with your toddler right before bedtime, that’s totally understandable. Don’t worry, I have more recommendations. Hop is a great movie for the whole family. Jesus Revolution is another incredible movie that I would recommend for any movie night. Or pretty much any Veggietale would be great for kids. Now as I’m looking up Easter movies I am realizing how many I haven’t seen. I guess I’m part of the problem, and I really need to step up my easter movie game.
These are just a few ideas of ways to celebrate. There are so many more. No matter what direction you decide to take this year. I hope that you have lots of fun with people you love. I hope you get your tummy full with yummy food, your kids take long naps, and most importantly I hope that you get everything you want from the Easter bunny. That’s all I have for now, see you all next week.
